What are we about?
We all know that being a keeper is one of the hardest positions on the pitch. From worrying about your positioning, to effectively distrbuting the ball, to organising your defense, you’re expected to be on point for every part of the 90 mintues in many aspects of the game. No one handles the pressure like us. No one understands the impact we have on the game like we do. No one does it like we do.
The Evolve Goalkeeping Academy is a 10-week program that focuses on the technical and tactical development of goalkeepers from all ages and abilities. We aim to take in keepers of all ages and skill levels to nurture their skills and grow their abilities to their full potential. We build keepers into capable players that are able to command the box and be confident in their abilites to be able to conquer all aspects of the game.
Goalkeeping Pillars
The academy operates to deliver a program which focuses on all aspects of goalkeeping. These include:

A keepers ability to hold on to the ball is just as important as any other area of the game. This can be the difference between pushing the ball away from a striker when making a finger tip save versus letting the ball slip through your hands when scooping (we’ve all been there!)

Your positioning can make or break your ability to beat a striker in a 1v1 or to be able to come out for a cross and command the ball in the box

With the evolution of the modern game, a keeper’s ability to move the ball with their feet is becoming an increasingly crucial tool in their toolbox, as stellar distribution can turn the game around from pressure on the defense to creating a 1v1 for our striker.

The foundation of any keeper, their ability to stop the ball from going into the back of the net. This is the reason why we do what we do. The feeling of stopping an almost certain goal is what we live for!

About the coach
Gian Tapia
Founder of Evolve Goalkeeping
Head Coach of Evolve Goalkeeping Academy
At 28 years old, Gian brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in goalkeeping as a player and experienced specialist coach. Starting his coaching journey at 17 years of age, Gian has coached goalkeepers at high-levels throughout Victorian clubs such as FC Bulleen Lions, Brunswick Juventus and Greenvale United FC. In 2024, Gian was appointed as Senior Academy GK Coach at Western United FC. Holding a current Foundation of Goalkeeping license, he has mastered his craft with over 9 years of coaching experience working with goalkeepers of all ages and abilities across Victoria.
The former Melbourne Victory Youth & El Salvador U17 goalkeeper made his competitive senior debut at 17 for Pascoe Vale FC, followed by a number of appearances for FC Bulleen Lions, then claiming a first choice position at NPL Club Whittlesea Ranges at the age of 18. In 2023, Gian was the Captain and first choice goalkeeper at NPL 2 side George Cross FC.
